On Friday November 17th, 2006, the FDA approved the usage of silicone gel breast implants for breast augmentation patients. For the past number of years there were restrictions placed on the usage of these implants for women who also needed a breast lift, after mastectomy, for marked asymmetry and for failure of saline implants.

The FDA, now with long term studies and exhaustive research, have found enough scientific evidence to support the Plastic Surgical Society's position that the implants are safe.
