Exparel 3day Novocaine

Posted December 03, 2014 in Uncategorized

Exparel is a 3 day Novocaine slow release medication that I have just started using for breast augmentation and for tummy tuck patients. It is injected at the time of those procedures and so far, no narcotic usage by the patients. They have used only Tylenol after breast augmentations.

Breast augmentation under the muscle where the implants will look more natural, usually hurt for at least 3-4 days. The Exparel usage has covered that pain wonderfully making this a much easier recovery time. Patients still need to take it easy for those days so you do not cause undue swelling and problems with displacement of the implant or bleeding but the responses have been great.

The ON Q pump I used for tummy tucks required a catheter to be left outside the body so the Novocaine solution could be pumped in, but that was a potential source of infection. The Exparel has removed that. Go online or call the office for more information. 203-899-0000. Dr. Rosen.
