Is Breast Augmentation Safe During COVID-19?

Posted August 25, 2020 in Breast Augmentation

2 Minute Read:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have received many questions about whether or not it is safe to have a breast augmentation done given the circumstances. Our office has been following the issue closely and has adjusted our surgical policies to reflect guidance from the American College of Surgeons, the Plastic Surgical Society, and the Connecticut Department of Public Health

Is Plastic Surgery Safe During COVID-19?

With the proper precautions, surgeries for medical necessities have continued throughout the outbreak, and have been done safely. While there have been a few reported cases of infected surgeons exposing their patients, we have taken considerable steps to limit this risk.

Our staff has new PPE as required by law in Connecticut. We continue to use a combination of self-reporting, periodic temperature checks, and in-depth cleaning between appointments to keep our staff and facility safe and sterile.

Guidelines for elective surgeries have been fuzzy. In some states, it is permitted; in other states, all but the most critical surgeries are suspended. In short, there are few real answers, and guidelines change on a week to week basis.

The good news is that Connecticut reopened for elective surgeries in May, and we have been able to stay open since that time. This is good news for our patients, many of whom are interested in going through breast augmentation and the associated recovery period during this time of social distancing.

Is Breast Augmentation Surgery Safe?

Breast and body procedures remain as safe as they have ever been after implementing new health and office policies. Breast augmentation surgery and other breast procedures (including breast lift surgery and breast reduction surgery) are as safe as we can make them. There is limited risk of COVID-19 exposure during these procedures as both patients and surgical staff wear proper PPE for surgical operations. This means that breast augmentation surgery is currently safe for our patients.
