Rhinoplasty Surgery CT

Posted December 21, 2018 in Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the more challenging procedures for Plastic Surgeons to perform well. A natural “not done” look that works with the patients face is the goal. Every final result should not be the same. If the face is square, oval, round, pentagonal, thin, fuller all make a difference in how to approach the nose in my opinion. The Aesthetic Eye of the surgeon and patient work together to achieve a pleasing result.

The procedure can be performed closed with only incisions inside the nose or open with a small incision on the bottom of the nose between the nostrils. I recommend the approach based on what is needed to be performed on the nose to achieve the goal of the patient. Some surgeons only perform open or closed. Achieving the result is what counts.

A patient may come in with one concern on their nose, and I may bring up other areas for them to look at based on my experience and what a change may do to the appearance of the nose. There is a small surface area to the nose, so narrowing the tip for example may make the nostrils appear to be flaring. Narrowing a bump on the nose may make the tip seem wider. The changes are usually very very small, but this can be concerning to the patient, we understand that. Time is taken to make sure we are all on the same page.

The procedure is performed usually under general Anesthesia in about 90 minutes. There is usually minimal discomfort, some bruising which usually resolves in about a week. There still will be some swelling that will take time to go down. Believe it or not, the nose will take about 18 months to show a final result.
