Mommy Makeover surgery is an inclusive term for a combination of procedures designed to restore a woman’s body after pregnancy. The female form changes significantly during pregnancy and after childbirth. Skin and muscles stretch, fat develops in new places, breasts begin to sag, and body definition is lost. The Mommy Makeover addresses these areas most affected by pregnancy with one surgery to remove the need for multiple recovery periods and the additional costs associated with multiple surgeries.Schedule a Consultation
Achieved With a Mommy Makeover
Many women strive for a slim and defined waistline. This desire is difficult under any circumstances, especially after having children. A Mommy Makeover uses tummy tuck surgery and liposuction to trim the waistline and give you the definition in your midsection that you’ve always wanted.
After pregnancy, fat accumulates in many places on the body. Through a combination of procedures, a Mommy Makeover slims and enhances your natural contours, which leaves you looking and feeling your best.
Many women feel like they lose a sense of their bodies after having children. These feelings can negatively impact a woman’s self-image and confidence. Mommy Makeover surgery allows women to reclaim their feminine physique and once again feel confident in their own skin.
Customizing Your Mommy Makeover
Breast augmentation enhances the appearance of breasts that have lost volume due to pregnancy. Implants may be made of saline, silicone, or cohesive gel (also known as “gummy bear” implants), and their outer shell may either be smooth or textured. Implants will be placed under the muscle to look and feel more like your natural breast, and incisions are usually closed with internal sutures. Dr. Rosen gives implant size recommendations based on the diameter of the breasts and the size of the abdomen and shoulders.
Breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift to correct any breast sagging that may have resulted from pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Patients can undergo breast reduction as part of their Mommy Makeover to remove excess breast tissue and create balanced body proportions. Dr. Rosen performs breast reduction through either a lollipop or anchor incision, depending on the amount of reduction needed. For some patients, the breasts may be lifted to an aesthetically pleasing level and excess, sagging skin will be removed. Dr. Rosen makes breast size recommendations based on the size of the abdomen and shoulders.
Tummy tuck surgery is performed on the abdomen to restore youthful, toned contours. This procedure eliminates excess skin, tightens underlying muscles, and removes unwanted pockets of fat that create a pooched appearance. There are several tummy tuck variations available:
- A mini tummy tuck focuses on tightening the area below the belly button. This technique uses a shorter incision.
- A full tummy tuck addresses skin and muscle laxity both below and above the belly button.
- A modified tummy tuck addresses skin and muscle laxity below the belly button but also repairs the muscle layer above the belly button.
- A circumferential tummy tuck (also referred to as a lower body lift) includes tightening the abdomen, lessening love handles, lifting the buttock region, and slimming the thighs. This technique is ideal for patients with significant tissue laxity on the hips and thighs.
While liposuction is commonly combined with a tummy tuck, it can be performed alone if there is good skin elasticity on the abdomen. Liposuction can also remove stubborn pockets of fat on the hips and thighs to reveal a sculpted physique.
Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Lift is the newest addition to the Mommy Makeover procedure. The Brazilian Butt Lift takes the fat that was removed through liposuction of the abdomen, hips, or thighs and uses it to augment and enhance the buttock region. This technique achieves greater definition of the backside while giving the hips and thighs a slimmer appearance.
Long-acting novocaine is injected during the procedure to make the postoperative period more manageable, and prescription medication can relieve any discomfort. Your incision sites will be wrapped in bandages and compression garments to increase blood flow and reduce any swelling. Any drains will be removed after one week. Traditionally, patients take one to two weeks off of work; most patients can return to their normal daily activities at that point. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least eight weeks.
Scars will be present at all incision sites. Dr. Rosen does his best to make these incisions as inconspicuous as possible. Scars can be easily hidden with clothing and will fade with time.
The cost of your Mommy Makeover will depend on multiple factors, such as the combination of procedures, the techniques used, anesthesia costs, facility fees, and surgical fees. Dr. Rosen and his staff will provide you with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation.
Frequently Asked QuestionsSchedule a Consultation
How long should I wait until having Mommy Makeover surgery?
Dr. Rosen recommends that you wait at least three months after having children before considering the Mommy Makeover, as this will ensure that your body has healed and returned to its shape. Although not a requirement, it is recommended that you hold off on this procedure if you are considering more children in the future, as any subsequent pregnancies will negatively affect your results.
Am I a candidate?
The ideal Mommy Makeover candidate is within 10 to 15 pounds of her ideal weight and in good health with minimal medical risks. These risks include diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Patients should not smoke, and they should be dedicated to maintaining their results.
What kind of anesthesia will be used?
Dr. Rosen uses general anesthesia to perform this surgery.
How long will the surgery take?
The length of the surgery depends on the combination of procedures. The surgery must be kept under six and a half hours to minimize the chance of complications.
What are the complications associated with this procedure?
Complications are not common with the Mommy Makeover. However, though rare, they can include:
- Anesthesia risks
- Changes in skin sensation
- Fluid buildup
- Poor wound healing
- Capsular contracture (for breast augmentation patients)
Will my results be permanent?
The results of your Mommy Makeover surgery are known to be long lasting when paired with a healthy lifestyle that consists of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. Significant weight fluctuations and additional pregnancies will affect the results of your surgery, and touch-up procedures may be requested.
